Global Peaks of Excellence: My research philosophy has always been to investigate the most challenging, fundamental problems in science, a philosophy deeply instilled by John Abelson, my Caltech mentor, who trained with Francis Crick and Sydney Brenner, two legendary Nobel Laureates. I therefore hold fast to publish only complete and significant stories. In line with this belief, I prefer not to chase trivial questions just for the sake of getting one quick paper out. In short, I aim to pursue excellence and take pride of ever y paper coming out of my lab. For example, our recent Nature Ecology and Evolution paper has w on the 第17 屆有庠科技論文獎 ( 2019 ) .


Social Responsibilities: One of my aspirations after years of services at the Ohio State University is to contribute back to Taiwan through a research program mindfully coupled with education, not only within the Academia Sinica per se but also toward the Taiwanese society at large. Because of this conviction, I have done numerous outreach teaching, talks and service activities all over Taiwan  ( detailed in my CV ) . Also, in 2017, I was appointed as the Academia Sinica´s Director of Program for Promotion of Research Integrity (PPRI) (a non-paid position). Because of all these efforts, I was honored by a 臺灣扶輪公益獎 ( Taiwan Rotary Club Association Public Service Award ) in 2018. I shall continue these ac tivities as a c oncerned and r esponsible scientist and citiz en.


Attract and Cultivate Top Talents: Upon returning to Taiwan, I have trained five Ph.D. students and 13 postdoc fellows  ( five were awarded AS postdoc fellowships ) . Those who finished training in my lab have since moved on to secure positions in colleges, research institutes, and private sectors. I shall continue to identify, recruit, and mentor top talents, in the hope that they will go on to do great things in scienc e and/or make important contributions to our socie ty.
