Performance of major S&T policies ● Asia Silicon Valley Development Plan 2.0: Taiwan has embarked on a strategic initiative aimed at attracting major international companies, including industry giants such as Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, to invest in innovative research and development sector. Considerable effort has been made to aid new ventures in securing financing that cumulatively exceeds NT$100 billion. ● Biomedical Industry Innovation Program: Through this program, Taiwan conducted a comprehensive review and adjustment of biomedical laws and regulations, including the pivotal "Act for the Development of Biotech and Pharmaceutical Industry." As a result of these strategic efforts, 205 biotechnology companies are now either listed or traded on the over-the-counter market. Of these, 34 have attained an impressive market value exceeding NT$10 billion. Over the past 5 years, this dynamic initiative has successfully attracted private investments totaling approximately NT$350 billion, thus fueling the continuous growth and innovation within the biomedical sector. ● Green Energy Technology Industry Innovation Promotion Plan: The cumulative installation capacity of domestic solar photovoltaic installations has surged to an impressive 9,723.75 MW, and wind power generation capacity stands at 1,581.06 MW. Beyond capacity enhancements, 1.87 million renewable energy certificates have been issued, reflecting the sustainability and environmental conscientiousness of these initiatives. Furthermore, by the end of 2022, green power transactions reached 1.67 billion kWh, affirming Taiwan’s achievements in making green energy a reality. ● Smart Machinery Industry Promotion Program: This initiative has spurred industries to cultivate a vibrant smart machinery ecosystem, which has led exports of machinery and equipment to reach an unprecedented NT$1 trillion. Furthermore, the program has successfully promoted smart manufacturing coaching initiatives and catalyzed manufacturers to invest a more than NT$2 billion. This strategic approach has not only elevated Taiwan's In-house R&D capacities but has also strengthened industrial and technological collaboration with Japan and with countries in South East Asia, North and Latin America, and the European Union, further positioning Taiwan as a key player in the global smart machinery landscape.
