The "2022 Compilation of Central Government Science and Technology R&D Performance" features the meticulous compilation of the research outcomes from 29 ministries, offering a comprehensive overview of Taiwan's scientific and technological research accomplishments in 2022. The report has also been crafted to ensure its alignment with the overarching vision of Taiwan's national science and technology (S&T) policy. This comprehensive report comprises four main sections: Introduction, General S&T performance, Performance of major S&T policies, and Featured Projects. An additional appendix also offers data that shed light on Taiwan's international competitiveness in the fields of S&T. S&T Budget In 2022, Taiwan’s central government made a significant investment of NT$121.51 billion for S&T. This allocation funded 387 projects and was strategically divided among four major categories: basic research (NT$42.14 billion), general S&T governance (NT$20.12 billion), major policy programs (NT$39.19 billion), and the forward-looking Infrastructure Development program (NT$20.06 billion). Strengthen the national S&T governance system The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) has formally published the "White Paper on Science and Technology (2023–2026)." In this document, the NSTC adopts the vision of "forward-looking innovation, democratic inclusiveness, resilience, and sustainability" as the fundamental principle guiding its scientific and technological vision through 2035. This visionary framework will serve as a strategic guide for ministries as they chart their long-term commitments to S&T. Simultaneously, the NSTC has finalized the specifications for protecting national core technologies. These specifications have been meticulously developed to safeguard the progress and compet i t iveness of high-tech industr ies, thereby strengthening the foundation for the growth of these vital sectors.
