以調整酵素方式成功增強現有抗生素藥效

I received my Ph.D. in Chemistry under supervision of late Prof. Jonathan Spencer at Cambridge University, UK, in 2003. I began my postdoctoral study at the same university, where I worked for both Profs. Peter Leadlay and Jonathan Spencer at Departments of Biochemistry and Chemistry (2003-2004). I established my own career as Assistant Professor at National Taiwan Ocean University in 2004, where I reinforced my research conviction in natural products chemistry and biosynthesis thereof. I laid a solid ground on elucidating clinically potent lipoglycopeptide antibiotics teicoplanin and dalbavancin by cracking their biosynthetic code for a vital lipo-sugar pharmacophore that sets the basis of developing next generations of last-resort antibiotics to conquer life-threatening drug resistance. Over the years, a series of pathbreaking works were published in field-leading journals: CELL CHEM BIOL, 2004, 11(1), 107-119; J AM CHEM SOC, 2006, 128(42), 13694-13695; J AM CHEM SOC, 2007, 129, 13384-13385. Because of the attainments, I was recruited to Genomics Research Center (GRC), Academia Sinica as Assistant Professor in 2007. In 2011, I was promoted to Associate Professor on account of scientific excellence, wherefrom the noteworthiest work was the one presented in NAT CHEM BIOL, 2011, 7, 304-309. In 2019, I was promoted to Full Professor with major works published in ANGEW CHEM INT ED, 2014, 53(7), 1943-1948; J AM CHEM SOC, 2014, 136(31), 10989-10995; ANGEW CHEM INT ED, 2018, 57(7), 1802-1807. I was also invited to assume Deputy Director of the GRC to implement the mandates entrusted to the position (2019-2023). Currently, I serve as Division Director of Chemical Biology in the center. New milestones were not fettered but extended as exemplified by works published in ACS CATAL, 2022, 12, 1945-1956; NAT COMMUN, 2023, 14, 2528. Notwithstanding loaded with a good deal of administrative/educational onuses alongside on/off-campus services, my research passion has never dwindled because research is my favorite.

得獎感言

I like to express my wholehearted appreciations to my family, my team, my institution and National Science and Technology Council. It would not be possible to collect this great honor without their constant and all-out support, trust, and patience. I was so euphoric when I was told my name was genuinely listed in the award announcement. The intuitive sense came out of my mind was that one who has long dedicated oneself to the specialty of natural products biosynthesis, antibiotics development and structural mechanistic design of biocatalysts is finally reckoned with. My acknowledgment is that not only does the award considerably inspire me to go further along the path but also highly affirm the value of our work that we have been engaging in over the years. Antibiotic drug resistance is a real urgent threat; it is happening right now facing our entire community. Being a member of awardees, I shall immerse myself in the venture day in day out to tackle the issue in return.
